The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most famous trekking routes in the world, offering a rigorous and rewarding adventure through the Peruvian Andes. The trail encompasses stunning mountain scenery, lush cloud forests, and beautiful Inca ruins. It's a journey that allows trekkers to step back in time and walk in the footsteps of the Incas, culminating in the iconic Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.
The Inca Trail was constructed by the Incas over 500 years ago. It served as a pilgrimage route to Machu Picchu.
The local culture is rich with Quechua traditions, and tourism significantly supports the local economy.
December marks the beginning of the rainy season in this region, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 24°C. Although there are frequent showers, the weather is generally mild. Trekkers should be prepared for wet conditions but can still enjoy the lush, green landscapes brought to life by the rain. It’s important to bring waterproof clothing and gear to stay dry and comfortable during the trek.
The best time to visit the Inca Trail is during the dry season from May to September. However, December offers a unique opportunity to see the trail in its lush, green state, and with fewer crowds. The cloud cover adds a mystical ambiance to the journey, making it an appealing time for those seeking a different experience.
