Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city on the island of Honshu. Known for its classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines, and traditional wooden houses, Kyoto is a city where history and modernity blend seamlessly. The city is also famous for its formal traditions such as kaiseki dining and the centuries-old teahouses where geisha entertain.
Kyoto served as Japan's capital and the emperor's residence from 794 until 1868.
Known for its cultural heritage, Kyoto's economy thrives on tourism, traditional crafts, and education.
December in Kyoto is cold but not freezing, with temperatures ranging from 2°C (36°F) to 12°C (54°F). The city experiences clear skies with low chances of rain or snowfall, making it a pleasant time for sightseeing while enjoying the crisp winter air. Warm clothing is recommended, especially for evening outings.
Kyoto is beautiful all year round, but the best times to visit are in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The Cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn foliage offer breathtaking views, while summer festivals and winter illuminations provide exciting experiences.
